Fairway Friends

Fairway Friends (formerly known as S.W.I.N.G.) is an important volunteer golf mentoring program developed by the national EWGA. “Fairway Friends” teams experienced golfers with newer golfers to help them feel comfortable on the golf course. This program is what EWGA is all about: helping women enter the game in a fun, supportive and welcoming environment.

Who is a Mentor?

A mentor is an experienced, but not necessarily good, golfer who guides a new golfer on pace of play, basic rules and proper etiquette on and off the golf course; she does not teach swing mechanics, however! A mentor may also guide a new club member on how to participate in our EWGA functions and to actually participate with her mentee in all-club Scramble events. Being a mentor is extremely rewarding and a unique way to make a difference.

Who is a Mentee?

A mentee is someone making the transition from beginning instruction to playing on a golf course: a brand new club member with limited on-course experience, a former Fast Tracker or other members feeling the need for guidance. Each mentee is paired with a mentor to guide them around the golf course safely and answer questions about etiquette, basic rules and other nuances of the game to build the mentee’s confidence on a golf course. It’s always more fun to learn something new with a buddy by your side!

Taking the Next Step

Over 2400 EWGA members nationwide have participated in the mentoring program as a mentor or mentee, and this year your Sacramento Chapter is ready to get on board.   You may contact Fairway Friend coordinator, Clare Payne by e-mail e-clare@comcast.net and let her know of your interest in becoming either a Mentor or a Mentee.

A special evening for all mentors and mentees is scheduled for Monday, March 29th at 5:15 pm at the Academy Holes at Haggin Oaks.   Following an hour of fun "play" on the academy holes, we'll enjoy a social, no-host supper together in the "Grill" at Haggin.
